The artist's sublime colour schemes and erratic cartography of earthly textures howl their own songs from inside the bedrock of these swirling geographies with message enough to spare, but the film often drills deeper, attempting to get at the mantle of the scenes - that is, to the heart of the man who channeled them, layer upon painstaking layer.
